LOS ANGELES – The San Francisco-based Brobeck Phleger & Harrison welcomed a new executive compensation tax partner into its Irvine office on March 30.

Kirk Maldonado had been in the Costa Mesa office of Los Angeles’ Riordan & McKinzie, a 70-some lawyer Los Angeles corporate practice founded by soon-to-be-former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan (who’s expected to return to practice there, by the way).

“Kirk is an outstanding addition to our tax group,” Kathlene Lowe, Brobeck Phleger’s Irvine managing partner, says. “His addition further solidifies Brobeck’s position as a ‘go-to’ firm [for] complex executive compensation and ERISA issues.”

Meanwhile, Brobeck lost Los Angeles partner Allen Sussman, who went down the street to Morrison & Foerster, courtesy of legal recruiter Larry Watanabe of Watanabe Nason & Seltzer.

Sussman, who joined Morrison on April 2, is a corporate and securities lawyer who focuses on middle-market technology and digital media companies.

Altogether, Brobeck has more than 950 lawyers in 13 offices.
