SAN DIEGO – Cleveland-based Arter & Hadden has added seven lawyers to its San Diego office from Hillyer & Irwin, also in San Diego.
“We left Hillyer & Irwin because we believe that we need a national platform to continue to expand our representation on our international transactional and business litigation practices,” corporate and real estate partner William Reavey says.
Reavey, partners Michael Madgett and Murray Lewis, of-counsel Linda Hammacher and three associates joined Arter & Hadden on Nov. 6.
The group more than doubles the number of attorneys Arter & Hadden lists in its San Diego office to 12. The firm has 470 attorneys and 13 offices in the United States and Europe. Six of those offices are in California.
Hillyer & Irwin president John Dabbieri did not return requests for comment. These departures appear to have reduced his firm from 28 lawyers to 21.
Recruiter Lawrence Watanabe of Los Angeles’ Watanabe & Nason brokered the deal and says he’s placed a number of expats from Hillyer & Irwin. He calls that firm’s loss “unfortunate.” “The market in San Diego, as in other technology-driven regions, is heavily geared towards the larger national practices which can offer a larger platform and will continue to lead the current market,” Watanabe says.
