SAN DIEGO – Drawn by the firm’s deep roots in San Diego, native son Phillip L. Kossy has jumped to Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps.
Last month, Kossy joined the firm’s labor and employment group, which now has 13 attorneys. His practice includes discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination and wage-and-hour litigation, as well as pre-litigation counseling. His clients include manufacturers, retail companies, industrial suppliers, law firms and advertisers.
The new partner came from the San Diego office of Littler Mendelson, a 400-lawyer labor and employment boutique headquartered in San Francisco.
“Littler is a fine firm, but Luce has a stronger local presence,” Kossy says. “I’m a lifetime San Diegan, and I’m pleased to be associated with a firm that is so prominent and well-known in San Diego.”
Based in San Diego, Luce Forward has 215 lawyers practicing in five California offices and one New York office.
Kossy, 50, expects to bring some of his clients – ranging from retailer The Nieman Marcus Group Inc. to the San Diego County district attorney – over to Luce Forward.
Before joining Littler in 1987, Kossy served as a lawyer in the San Diego County counsel’s office for 10 years.
“He brings great experience in labor litigation, which is a very demanding area and one in which there’s a lot of opportunities with our diverse client base,” Luce Forward managing partner Robert Buell says.
Legal recruiter Lawrence Watanabe of Watanabe Nason & Seltzer brokered Kossy’s move.
