SAN FRANCISCO – Kerry Shapiro only had to move downstairs when he switched law firms.
Shapiro left the San Francisco office of Baker & McKenzie, located on the 24th floor of Two Embarcadero Center, for Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro, which is on the fifth floor.
Shapiro, who joined the firm’s environmental and land use group as a partner Oct. 1, says he believes he can focus more on regional clients and matters, while Baker & McKenzie focuses on expanding internationally.
“Jeffer Mangels with offices in Northern and Southern California would provide me with a better platform to assist my clients throughout the state,” Shapiro says.
His clients include large construction materials companies, such as Cemex Inc. “He complements the existing environmental and land use practice in L.A.,” Richard Rogan, managing partner of the San Francisco office, says. “We’re please to have Kerry on board.”
Associate Scott Castro came over with Shapiro, and the two are the first in the practice group in San Francisco, according to Rogan. The group has 10 attorneys in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Baker & McKenzie does not have a Los Angeles office.
Mark Davis of Watanabe Nason & Seltzer brokered the deal.
Jeffer Mangels has 29 attorneys in San Francisco and 124 in Los Angeles.
