SAN DIEGO – After 18 months of commuting from his San Diego county home to Fish & Neave’s Palo Alto office, partner Nick Pisano has joined the Del Mar office of San Diego’s Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps.

Pisano started at the local firm Jan. 1.

The intellectual property litigator moved to the San Diego area to better serve his regional clients and to strike up new opportunities in an area where, from Irvine down, plenty of business opportunities exist among startups, he says.

“I really think that the San Diego area is the next up-and-coming area,” Pisano says. “For the kind of intellectual property work I’ve been doing, this is a really excellent opportunity.”

Pisano’s clients include Los Angeles’ CB REI-Investors 1031 Inc., Helsingborg, Sweden’s Jomed, and Santa Clara’s CardioVention Inc.

Pisano is joining a 10-attorney intellectual property practice group and a total of 17 attorneys in the Del Mar office of Luce Forward. The firm has 197 attorneys with other offices in downtown San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.

Pisano leaves behind the 29-attorney Palo Alto office of Fish & Neave. The intellectual property boutique is a New York-based firm with 150 attorneys.

“We were sorry to see him go, but from time to time, other firms do attract our partners because we have a high reputation in the IP field,” Palo Alto partner Norman Beamer says. “We don’t anticipate this will have any material impact on our office and our firm.”

Lawrence Watanabe of Watanabe Nason & Seltzer handled the move.
