THE RECORDER

SAN FRANCISCO – Orrick’s Los Angeles office has lost another litigator – this time to Goodwin Procter.
Daniel Tyukody, who at one time led the securities litigation and financial regulation group at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, joined Goodwin Procter on Monday in Los Angeles as partner.
For Goodwin, the lateral hire underscores a shift in growth strategy from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, said Goodwin L.A. office Chairman Lewis Feldman.
Tyukody has been involved in several high-profile securities litigation matters stemming from the financial crisis, with wins for IndyMac Bancorp, Novastar Financial Inc. and Pacific Capital Bancorp. “Dan is obviously an extremely highly qualified lawyer,” Feldman said. “We are extremely pleased to have him join.”
Goodwin has been focusing on building out its securities and big-ticket litigation practice, Feldman said. Late last year, the firm added commercial litigator Steven Ellis in L.A. from Sidley Austin. Ellis has been involved in the defense of Countrywide and Bank of America, Feldman said.
Goodwin is the third firm to pick up laterals from Orrick’s Los Angeles office this year. Four patent litigators, headed by partner Robert Dickerson, decamped to Dickstein Shapiro in February; and in April four litigators led by partner Edwin Woodsome left to open an L.A. office for Dechert.
Southern California recruiters at Watanabe Nason brokered the Tyukody move.
