SAN DIEGO – The partner movement within the San Diego legal community continues to churn. Veteran business litigator Nancy Stagg has joined the San Diego office of Foley & Lardner from Fish & Richardson. She will work in Foley’s business litigation & dispute resolution, and privacy, security & information management practices.

“I’m very excited by the opportunity here, and I think it’s a good place to take my practice to the next level,” she said. “It’s energizing. They have a little broader platform that is a good fit for me and my clients and the clients I hope to represent.”

Stagg also will be reunited with former colleague Jeff Blease, who is chair of Foley’s litigation department in San Diego and Del Mar. The two practiced together at a local firm when she was just starting out.

“I think he’s a great litigator, and so the opportunity to work with him again certainly was very attractive,” Stagg said.

Ken Schwartz and Stacey Pacelli of the legal recruiting firm Watanabe Nason helped place Stagg with Foley. Stagg will continue to focus her practice on complex business disputes, including defense of consumer class actions, intellectual property litigation, trade secret litigation, and unfair competition and false advertising litigation.

“Nancy’s broad business litigation experience and knowledge of class actions will provide significant value to our clients facing such challenges,” said Van A. Tengberg, managing partner of Foley’s San Diego and Del Mar offices. “She is one of six recently added to the San Diego office, boosting our exceptional group of attorneys across the firm’s six California offices to nearly 130.”

Stagg owns extensive trial and arbitration experience. She also has assisted corporate legal departments in avoiding and managing litigation, handling arbitrations and mediations, and addressing e-discovery issues. She currently serves as co-chair of the lawyer representative committee to the Southern District of California and is a member of the lawyer representative coordinating committee to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Foley initially reached out to Stagg, who said she only has fond memories of Fish & Richardson.

“Fish is a great firm,” she said. “There’s more people who do what I do at Foley on the class-action side.”
