THE RECORDER

SAN FRANCISCO – Securities litigation partner John Tang has joined Jones Day’s San Francisco office from Latham & Watkins, where he was a former co-chair of the securities litigation practice group.

Tang represents companies and their officers in matters ranging from securities class actions to insider trading investigations. He also counsels clients on corporate governance and disclosure issues.

Some of Tang’s clients have included Covad Communications, TiVo Inc., OpenTable Inc., Intuit Inc., Ford Motor Co., Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse and Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc.

He also represents Chinese companies in litigation proceedings in the U.S., Hong Kong and in international arbitration. Before becoming a lawyer, Tang, who speaks Mandarin and Cantonese, lived for two years in Hong Kong and worked at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Tang was a key member of the Latham team that defended Chinese company LDK Solar Co., the world’s largest manufacturer of solar wafers, in U.S. class action securities litigation.

Tang said he hopes to work with more Chinese companies at Jones Day. The firm’s emphasis on collaboration was a big part of why he chose to move, he said, along with its commitment to growing in California.

“That’s something I very much wanted to be a part of,” Tang said. “This is an opportunity to be a part of something really exciting.”

With the addition of Tang, there are now 56 lawyers in Jones Day’s securities litigation and SEC enforcement practice and 93 lawyers in its San Francisco office, which opened in 2003.

Tang graduated from Columbia Law School in 1996.
