PALO ALTO – Patent attorney Scott M. Smith has moved to the Palo Alto office of Dorsey & Whitney LLP as partner, a little more than a year after he founded a Palo Alto office for Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP.
Smith, who has a medical degree, specializes in procuring patents and managing intellectual property portfolios for medical technology clients. He previously served as an in-house intellectual property lawyer at several medical device companies, including most recently at Redwood City-based Pulmonx Inc., where he was vice president of intellectual property and legal affairs.
Smith’s departure means that Knobbe Martens only has two full-time lawyers, both associates, based in Palo Alto, according to the firm’s website. The current Palo Alto office managing partner, Gerard von Hoffmann , splits his time between Irvine and Palo Alto.
