SAN DIEGO – San Diego lawyer Alan Talbott has taken his estate planning practice to Procopio Cory Hargreaves & Savitch, drawn by the firm’s San Diego roots.

Talbott left the San Diego office of San Francisco-based Gordon & Rees to join Procopio on Jan. 2. His clients are primarily wealthy individuals, although he also serves some corporate clients. Talbott says that many of his clients are following him over to the new firm.

Talbott, who has worked in San Diego his entire legal career, says he is impressed by Procopio’s commitment to the region. He worked at Harmsen Carpenter Sidell & Olson from 1983 until January 2001, when the firm was acquired by Gordon & Rees.

The vast majority of Talbott’s clients are located in San Diego.

“The name of Procopio is very much out there in San Diego, and that helps in an estate planning practice,” says the 43-year-old attorney, who works in the firm’s downtown office.

“I’m sure this has been a very good move for me personally,” he adds. Miles Scully, the managing partner of Gordon & Rees’ San Diego office, says Talbott is one of the best estate planning lawyers in the city.

“Procopio is very lucky to get someone of his abilities and character to help them with their practice,” Scully said.

Legal recruiter Lawrence Watanabe of Watanabe Nason & Seltzer brokered Talbott’s move to Procopio Cory.

Procopio Cory, with offices in downtown San Diego and Carlsbad, has more than 70 attorneys.

Gordon & Rees has 160 attorneys among its four offices.
