LOS ANGELES – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP has announced that Michael S. Lebovitz has joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in the International Tax practice group. Lebovitz comes to the firm from Baker & McKenzie LLP.
Lebovitz’s arrival coincides with a number of other additions to the firm’s California offices. A group of four finance attorneys, previously with Winston & Strawn LLP, joined DLA Piper’s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices as partners on June 1.
Lebovitz focuses on business and tax planning in connection with cross-border investments to and from the U.S. and other countries. He has advised clients on tax implications related to international joint ventures, cross-board mergers and acquisitions, international corporate finance, and capital market transactions. His clients include leaders in media and entertainment, life sciences, high technology and private equity.
“Michael is an outstanding international tax attorney who is knowledgeable about all aspects of cross-border transactions, business operations, and related transfer pricing issues,” said David Colker, a partner in DLA Piper’s International Tax group. “He brings two decades of international tax experience to the firm and has represented some of the largest companies in the world.”
Lebovitz has been included in several listings of leading tax lawyers, including International Tax Review’s “World Tax 2005” list of the world’s leading tax lawyers. He is a frequent lecturer and author on international tax issues, and has given speeches throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia for organizations like the Council for International Tax Education; the Alliance for Tax, Legal, and Accounting Seminars; and the Tax Executives Institute.
In 1984, Lebovitz earned a J.D., cum laude, from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He is an adjunct professor with Loyola’s LL.M program, teaching Advanced International Tax.
DLA Piper’s tax group has over 125 attorneys globally. DLA Piper’s international tax practice encompasses all aspects of cross-border transactions, business operations, transfer pricing and tax controversy issues.
